Michael and Abigail are new as shepherds but are lifelong farmers. They were members of Abigail’s family dairy farm until 2018. They decided to raise sheep when their dream as dairy farmers fell apart. Their new farm allows them to teach basic farming values to their children and incorporates dirt and animal therapy to help combat depression. Sheep are one of the few livestock species that Abigail felt she could handle with their five children; Jakob, Leon, Oliver, Victor and Zilda, while Michael works out of state as a millwright. Abigail has been a life long advocate of animal agriculture and has received training through the UDIM for telling agriculture’s story through social media. She is excited to develop a diversified farm with fruit, vegetables and sheep that work in synergy together and, in the process, help to tell commercial agriculture’s story. Sheep manure is excellent fertilizer and cover crops make excellent sheep feed. On December 14, 2019 their flock of 20 ewes and a ram arrived from Great Lakes Lamb LLC (Bristol’s). They will have meat lambs available the fall of 2020. When the farm is fully established their customers will be able to directly purchase lamb, fruit and vegetables from their farm store.
